What is HCF?
The Highest Common Factor (HCF), also known as the Greatest Common Divisor (GCD), is the largest positive integer that divides each of the numbers without a remainder.
How to calculate HCF:
- List all the factors of each number.
- Identify the common factors.
- Choose the largest among the common factors.
For example, to find the HCF of 12, 18, and 24:
- Factors of 12: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12
- Factors of 18: 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18
- Factors of 24: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24
- Common factors: 1, 2, 3, 6
- The largest common factor is 6, so HCF(12, 18, 24) = 6
